I've been working on a new body of work called "Core Icons" for MONTHS and I'm jazzed about it. I set out to create an architectural survey of the 12 urban core neighborhoods in Lawrence, Kansas. Tbh, this is what I typically do anyway, but for this body of work, I approached each neighborhood in a focused manner. I dedicated my weekends from April through the end of June to hiking each neighborhood and documenting every bit of iconic residential architecture I could. The definition of "iconic" is of course subject to interpretation- the resulting photographs from "Core Icons" do not feature the grandest, most ornate architecture in the urban core- instead, they feature houses that demonstrate defining characteristics of each neighborhood. The end result will hopefully giving the viewer a sense of the deeper essence of the Lawrence, Kansas streets I love.
